I am a 32 year old mother of two children under five – with another on the way in September 2013 – and have enrolled to study the BA (Hons) Creative Arts with OCA; starting out with Drawing 1: Drawing Skills and Painting 1: The Practice of Painting. This is something I have unfortunately put off for the last 4-5 years, fearing that I’d never have the time to do it. Well, now is as good a time as any!! I juggle lots of different things to fit in around my kids, so this shouldn’t (hopefully) be any different.
I have drawn and painted since leaving school in 1997, after achieving A grades in Art & Design. Unfortunately – and regrettably – I wasn’t able to pursue university back then, but its something I am trying to put to rights now. My dream is to become an art teacher in a school setting – teaching young or old(er), I really don’t mind!
I have been lucky to receive lots of commissions from family and friends over the years, mainly for portraits of pets and loved ones. This is an avenue I’d still like to pursue – if time allows – and will probably feature heavily in my sketchbook work, with lots of detailed studies of my children’s angelic little faces!
As well as these two initial courses, I am also looking to study:
Painting 2: Exploring Concepts in Painting
Art History 2: Pathways into Specialism
Painting 3: Painting Your Own Portfolio
If all goes well, I will have these all completed within four years; however, family life may take over in the meantime but I’ll still push on regardless.
Nice Portraits, the one of Jessica has lots of life.
